30 souls who knew what they were getting themselves into

Terrorists pirates all sorts of names
bandied about and shot down in flames
by this group and others
and governments too
who join the affray
with little to do
outside of where we live
the environments are
they are shared areas
and if we scar
what is not ours
we are err
and energy companies
try to infer
that they are our saviours
that they will create
energy for us if we just wait
they take into account
the investments and they
often forget the common essay
that springs from the pages
of those local souls
who see and who feel
those visionary goals

take the Arctic
a place of such natural worth
a pristine and cold aura
part of our earth
to drill there for oil
deep down in that ice
is a dangerous event
that could blow in a trice
Greenpeace was there
with the heroes who came
the manned the great ship
“Arctic Sunrise” its name
it sailed and it fought
heavy seas to be there
to show those drillers
they had to beware

it was seriously dangerous
an really they should
not be so greedy
for now if they would
create what BP did in the Caspian Sea
or the Gulf some years later
where would we all be
there is no going back
once the spill does its thing
its destructive force
was then bound to bring
so much down on us
from a great height
thats when our days
would have become night

terrorists pirates
these are sweet souls
who gave up their freedom
and each in their roles
sent out the message
that the Arctic needs
protection and safeguards
for within it bleeds
and Gazprom and the coastguard
and all hell broke loose
the threat to the profit
from prophets was met
with force with gun fire
with jail and with hate
these are people who love
who consider who rate

these are angels not devils
not pirates they just
look to each other
and we know they must
succeed for we know that
the shared countryside
is priceless and therefore
why would we deride
what they do
what they said
how they languish today
in some jail in Murmansk
why do you make them pay

the price that you set
was too high for us all
Greenpeace was really
answering our call
the call of the wild
the sense that was shown
in the darkness of night
our souls were wind blown
we feel for our comrades
now locked up by you
do you now realise
what you now do
these are the angels
they should be free
this is what angels expect
now to be

left in the darkness
whilst Shell soldiers on
whilst their drills over heat
when the resource is gone
if a spill should occur
the world will look at you
with hate in its heart
and know it was true

I will not insist
its not my place but I
feel the time is now ripe
to let the birds fly
the let them be free
caged up as you do
is cruel and unjust
and not fitting of you
you are Russians
as such you are fair minded souls
you answer to no one
but you know the goals
we all have inside ourselves
and one is to
be fair in our dealings
whatever we do

30 brave souls
now languish in your jail
these are the angels
they are tired they are pale
they are sad they are sorry
they are pawns on your board
check mate will be signalled
the spill we afford
is evident then we can all
cry aloud
fight back our tears
as the miasmic shroud
rolls out across this pristine
place we all love
looking down on it
from a vantage high above

the sickening splutter
the vomit of ooze
that spreads like a plague
it will be violent news
to the wildness of nature
that will cake up and be
lost in it crude cloak
of adversity
pictures beamed every which way
and beyond
at that stage there will be no magic wand
just a feeling if only we had listened
to them
the Greenpeace message, that significant gem
