“We are now prepared to fly”

They came and took my wife away
and my pain inside did grow
it festered every moment
my spirit became low
I couldn’t live without her
my life force was in doubt
they took away my family
and what I was about

they took away my family
my Nation and my soul
they told me kneel down brother
we are in control
they took away my freedom
my love they took it all
and now my broken spirit
is up against their wall

when they took away my family
they took away my soul
they took away the land I loved
in fact they came and stole
every bit of money
my spirit and my love
and now they want my weapons
the great god up above

I have no way of knowing
what is now to become
of all my lovely children
I am now almost numb
by what I see around me
by what I hear and know
crying with the angels
our ancestors on show

the evil it is everywhere
the final tragedy
we were the first people
we looked after the earth
we love her as our mother
we knew of her great worth
these others they have little sense
of priority for they
have wasted and have plundered
it all and made us pay

they are now, taking our weapons
their threats to us are dire
my face must show my feelings
for our nation is on fire
they are killing all our animals
the wolves and the Buffalo
nothing gets any respect
and there’s nothing left to show

for all the years of struggle
for all the years of pain
subjected to their rule of law
our nation didn’t gain
anything we lost it all
they took it all away
and now they want our blood as well
and so to them I say

the nation I belong to
is out there in the sky
a million valiant warriors
riding now on high
we will never bow down
to those of you who feel
destruction is the only way
and we will never kneel

on this stolen wasted ground
our hearts are in the sky
we are with the eagles
we are now prepared to fly
