Self mutilation to prevent terminal disease

It seems to me that everyone is at it
the quest for money goes right to the core
there was a time when professionals
were all above such things
but now sound judgements who
can ask for sure
its money that drives everything
even the world of healing
life and death and cancer treatments
really its revealing
what women are now put through
it really seems to me
their empowerment would be simple
but no its fear, we see

cardboard threats and potential risks
no substance to them, are
put out by the white coats
who are very very far
away from what is actual
to what just might occur
and giving anyone the option
really to refer

to what is, self mutilation
cutting off each breast
just in case you get the disease
you take the highest test
your told of a very high risk
what can you say to that
to me it is such a vile affair
she should have smelled a rat

this was major surgery which may cost
her a deal
more of real discomfort
she, dare not conceal
the fact her breasts have
been cut off
one has to really ask
who ever made this decision
should be taken to task

for there is no true
reason
why this women should believe
that they could prevent cancer
if her breast she was relieved
of
its simply wrong of them
to say such things to her
and now she is beside herself
and messed up as it were

and she’s a famous actress
which does not bode well
for all the other women
who are told to face
their hell
told that they have shadows
wo are frightened in this way
and made to undergo
the expensive treatments
every day
when most of them don’t know

the success rates are incredibly small
and, they suffer so
the doctors make a packet
and Big Pharma’s profits grow
cancer’s costing millions
and they’re raking it all in
but self mutilation as a prevention
I think is a sin

against all humanity
to put a women through
such anguish at well such a time
I mean what can one do
you have to be of such a strong
demeanour to get by
to fight against the surgeons
who otherwise imply

fear and threats and risks
a women faced with all of this
really becomes understandably
as far away from bliss
as anyone could ever be
entering such woe
such a pivotal decision
of just which way to go

what has happened to this women
is a case that breaks the heart
she is very rich of course
but just to try and start
to think about the options
of losing both her breasts
and undergoing god knows what
with all those awful tests

and then to find out afterwards
that it was probably a mistake
that the judgement she was given
wasn’t for her sake
it was more to do with money
it kind of drags you down
it must get to one’s marrow
in the blood of life we drown

I just cannot imagine
the implications here
how the doctors did this
and how the ladies fear
clearly took her into realms
she wouldn’t have gone to, she
was so convinced by them
that she could die
it had to be

this really is the hardest
poem I have had to write
to try to get inside of her
and why she thought they were right
she had such empowerment
yet she let them take away
every ounce of her core strength
and for that she is going to pay

a high price
for her sanity is what now
must create
another bout of thoughtfulness
did she have a trait
was her risk much higher
did they tell her a lie
with all the money in the world
we all alas will die

I do not really know of her
but I reason that she must
be beside her self with such remorse
and for those she believed disgust
for she has lost so very much
and must live with this for she
will be reminded every moment
of every day that we

are mortal and our flesh and blood
is ours and we must try
and look after what we are given
until the day we die
we can absorb some agony
we can absorb some woe
but when doctors come and lie to us
really it goes to show

that nobody is above the clouds
opinions, that’s all they are
and whilst we are alive
it is for us to really star
in our own life but looking
afterall that we possess
filling our lives with love and care
and avoiding too much stress
