A secret camera tell us what perhaps we already knew The Circus in Moscow (but it could be anywhere)

Animals do not do tricks
why should they anyway
to entertain the public
who come along and pay
all this bloody nonsense
its clear there’s cruelty
the show is charged. you can feel it
and almost see the agony

the monkeys kept in cages
chained up everyday
let out to begin the work
to practice, the dismay
the severity of punishment
when a trick is not done well
the vigorousness of the trainer
a storminess in his voice
his roughness and his ferment
the monkeys have no choice
but do it or be punished
and the punishment is severe
he’s a fire brand of a character
instilling in them fear
beating them about the head
until they chirp and cry
bashing them repeatedly with a stick
ask yourself why
the monkey has to do it
put up with it for he
will be beaten,squeezed
and thrown about so spiteful
we can see
frustration from the trainer
WHAT a grim faced steely shit
a sadistic nasty bit of work
who clearly isn’t fit
for purpose in this scenario
an inhuman violent cad
ill natured cussing all the time
and altogether mad
no pity in his bosom
a hardness in his soul
hanging on a chain he’s beaten
the man has the control
so callous its relentless
the punishment is hard
smashed and crushed upon the floor
this poor monkey is scarred
it becomes a battle
a dry eyed hardened git
who left that monkey
motionless clearly hurt
a fit
of rage
relentless cruelty
and this is what it takes
to get wild monkeys
doing stupid tricks
just circus fakes

Circus and wild animals
should never ever be
in fact no animals ever
the sawdust ring should see
its bad enough for humans
to work this place each day
but using animals to do it
is a price too high to pay

and where they are kept
is terrible. chained in a tiny cage
you can hear the terror in their cries
its really hard to gauge
how humanity is up to this
the venomous display
Kangaroos and Ostriches
and Poodles, all I say

are given such a hard time
the torture grabs the soul
anyone with any heart
just take on that role
feel it, smell it, realise
the blood loss and the tears
how offensive and how virulent
and it can go on for years

Moscow circus somehow showed
us
a little glimpse of life
a session with the trainer
a monkey in such strife
prepared just hoping for a pat
a stroke and willing to
subject itself to torment
from any of the crew

one felt so much for its happening
behind closed doors, we know
the torture and the mayhem
and the bleeding and the flow
of evil its transgresses boundaries
every single day
this is circus after all
this is how they pay

and many a soul is beaten
lays down and wants to die
instinctively the jungle
in the tall trees they were high
on fruits and all that freedom
but now locked in some cage
indignant of the treatment
that just comes with the age

I just cannot now bring myself
to understand it, we
as children saw the circus
come to town
and probably
felt inside excitement
but now in later years
understand how sordid
how vile it all appears

this hooligan whoever he is
should now be found
and beaten to a fucking pulp
and trod on on the ground
chain him up
and toss him in a smelly little cage
and let him feel how terrible
it is lets quell his rage

thinking what he handed out
to those monkeys what he shared
his violence and his terror
for them I felt so scared
a brute a root of evil
and that kangaroo its face
and all created tragically
by part of the human race

every single creature
involved in circus does
suffer and its tougher
its a total disgrace
circus has to be closed down
I cannot bear to see
or know what’s happening
to them, its too much actually

humans must not do this
trainers being paid
to dole out their expletives
each foul mouthed vulgar raid
in the minds of children
corrupted by their threats
frightened by their menace
for me it really gets
deep into my psyche
and tortures me to death
I cry so many cold wet tears
and suffer with my breath

its shocking to just look at this
the violence is too much
how these animals take is all
and audiences as such
are unaware of all of this
imagining the souls
love to do these tricks for them
love acting out these roles

such ignorance from people
unfeeling in their core
by visiting their circus
of course there is more and more
terror thrust into the hearts and minds
of all those who
witness how the tricks are staged
and what the trainers do

I feel inside a sickness
my heart is pumping so
I want to go and vomit
this is not a show
this is a vile expression
as I lay down for to sleep
truthfully all I can do
in reality is weep

What a fantastic poem. I have never been a lover of circuses. Won’t go to one. Your poem epitomised the whole of the circus to me. Wonderful, let’s people know the true reality! Thank you.
