Thorncroft Chapel

We very often take the sky
for granted
its always there
so why the need to gaze
but 3 miles out of Eureka Springs
in Arkansas
west of highway 62
the light plays
in a wood
a chapel made of glass and wood
a gentle peaceful chapel
which in fact has stood
since July 1980
when it opened to the sky
a place where all wayfarers could come
and share and sigh
could kneel and take some comfort
from the beauty it possessed
the dream of one Jim Reed
and G Fay Jones whose test
was to design this place of elegance
this miracle of light
so beautifully fashioned
calm but with such might
with its blend of local materials
a truly resplendent place
on native stone and flagstones
it so exuded grace
a naturalness, a gentleness
a place perhaps to dream
to wander and to so absorb
and share the wondrous gleam
of light and dark and shade
and sky and the drama of it all
its all there
Thorn crown chapel
its unique
and many share
its vista, its enchanting
which means different things
to all
it is an amazing structure
some 48 feet tall
that rises from the forest floor
and is available to all
