British Farming even some of the best may be not to the standard we would have hoped

Having seen
some pf the best farms
in the country today
one can only shudder
at the thought that some must
pay
god knows what
to god knows who
to carry on the craft
of looking after animals
and hoping we’re all daft

some animals now are treated to inadequate
conditions
bare plastic floors that
pigs and boars
must think are pure renditions
they cannot bear to walk there
and that is all there is
so clearly it is painful
and somewhat of a swizz

senselessly designed
one thinks for other souls to use
but adapted at a later stage
and of course then they abuse
the animal but it makes no difference
the animals is there
and has to make the best of it
but it really isn’t fair

its down to lack of planning
and knowledge may be too
and that uncaring attitude
that you tend to see all through
so misery becomes part of their psyche
every day
and the farmers do not understand
and don’t know what to say

most of the time its so
they can make a few more quid each day
but they sleep in their king sized bed
with goose feather duvet
and drink their remy martin
and pass their time away

the pig is suffering terribly
but no one’s going to care
and so his flesh will suffer
but no one is aware
those farms that’s still
have farrowing crates
and lots do
its a sin
to expect a great fat sow
to lay like sardines in a tin

its body so voluminous
it pushes through the bars
and legs can just get caught or wedged
and in moving they must see stars
the pain must be so terrible
and with suckling piglit’s too
the discomfort must be extraordinary
but that is what they do

injuries and prolapse and flies
just every where
coughing and spluttering
and dying we can share
everything s on offer
each stage seems to be
representative on the farm
for our eyes to see

And these farms were the best farms
put up to win a prize
god now knows what some others are like
to realise
that what we’ve so far talked about was the cream
of the whole crop
and what’s behind closed doors elsewhere
god help us please full stop
