I think because so many
lack judgement
that is sound
they may be short of finance
for basically around
them they are
materialistic
and have debts
no doubt which they
are forced to try to reduce
in a clearly refined way
money borrowed of course
means your beholden
to the one
whose lent you it
and because the interest
it can stun
and overwhelm so many
morally they’d try
to do the right thing always
with a twinkle in their eye
but its reasonable their thinking
to well now think of me
get my debts paid off first
then live more ethically
in fact it never happens
because debts rise
and rarely fall
agenda’s overpower us
our back pressed to the wall
more live off their credit
unethical may be
but it provides some
independence in their minds
for free
its costing them the earth
in fact, but illogically they feel
empowered by it and welcome
the freedom which isn’t real
true ethics costs a lot of time
patience
and great care
and what parameters
does one use
and do all others share
the commitment that your making
its constant battle to
keep up with the others
with the burning desire you
be ethical and moral
be what some would admire
for most its talk up ethics
for where there’s smoke there’s fire
and its burns in many hearts I know
but their minds can’t possibly
give up the Beer, the football
and the 60 inch TV
