Coyote’s and North Dakota

Dakota mean’t
friends in the language of the
Sioux
its around a bout 5%
of the first people
still do
live around this area
and Northern Europeans too
and lots of grass
and brush
and of course the bold Coyote
who the hunter types will flush
out of hiding with
their calls
their contests
and this where
there are more churches
in this state
than any blooming where
but that don’t stop the killing
the camouflage brigade
high powered rifles
optics
like some special forces
raid
but their actions
not for terrorists
no! the animals, born there
with just as much right to the land
as the hunter

nearly 700,000 souls live in and around
Lutheran and Catholics and indigenous
are found
the Theodore Roosevelt National Park
the Red River that’s the place
but the way they kill the coyote
is a real disgrace
Coyote calling contests
lots of high powered guns
and lots of souls despatched to heaven
by fathers and their sons
who think its right and ethical
to shoot wild souls who roam
born here unlike many of them
for them it is their home
they range and forage that’s their life
the American Jackal seems
to occupy the hunters thoughts
but seldom source his dreams
will there ever be a day
when wild life has respite
remember each soul has a place
creation made that right
and all these angry people
set up to kill and maim
coyote, wolf, and any other
soul I’ve failed to name
