Fair ground horses
always perfect
some though
look the worst for wear
round and round they go like crazy
at the merry go round that’s where
roll up roll up
ride the horses
round and round
each day they go
never giddy always happy
come and be part of the show
a mare was being ridden
close to where a fair
was set up, she
observed the ornamental horses
round and round obediently
music playing children saying
how much they enjoyed the ride
the horses though seemed staid
and silent
dull if anything not wide eyed
it seemed a pretty boring life
going around and around all day
pretty music but pretty music
can be boring in a way
it would be nice
to lose the saddle
and just run up into the sky
through the forest
back to Nature
where the grass and flowers
grow high
kick my heels
and gallop faster
over the sand
and through water, I
would rather be
wild just like my father
than on some merry go round
just die
turning from the fair
ground slowly
I realised that life
for me
wasn’t really all that
stressful
it could be stressful
if I was free
remembering those
fairground horses
nose to tail
and round and round
and all the other horses
out there
working horses
that seemed bound
to pull carts
race and train at dressage
in the raw
and the rodeo
riding with the picadors
in the arena
would I go
No I have to say
the freedom
I have, I should try to see
the only true and honest
freedom
is when a horse dreams
constantly
and so that’s my
recommendation
to horses everywhere
go about your business
with your human partners
and just share
what good you can
and dream that one day
finding places wild and green
and living there
in rich sweet pastures
with other’s who
know where we’ve been
under the saddle
of all those humans
some were cruel
some did their thing
but nothing is like
running freely
that’s when the
old heart does sing
