A message from Mali the elephant

My human name is Mali
and an elephant am I
for 35 years
I’ve been in the Manila Zoo
I’ll die
here now I reckon
captivity oh! God
give me a small forest
and some mud
and more wet sod
just give me
my freedom
just for a year or 2
Manila Zoo is awful
so cramped, what I do
is stomp about
on concrete
my feet
are oh! so sore
life is really mental
such a blooming bore
the Philippines
are not my home
I really really fear
