The Funeral of Urmia

What a poignant disturbing
reflection I see
of people in black
like angels to me
how distress can create
such anguish and pain
solace and grief
and a lasting refrain

As Urmia shrinks
almost, beyond belief
such numbness spreads
over us all
a sort of narcosis
quietly protesting
the Government
won’t hear our call

an apparent, stillness
spreads silently
soulfully
over the land
a manifestation of
purity formed
pensive, we do understand

absorbed in the moment
this cortege of souls
an internal requiem
plays
it moves me to witness
this scene, I must say
which will stay with
me all of my days.
