From Perth to Adelaide

Perth Station is where the Indian Pacific

Begins its long haul across the Nullarbor

From Perth to Adelaide has got to be

one of the ways

3ii5 km inside a silver carriage

Cristina’s face soon faded, a new phase

Began aboard the India Pacific

A great old engine

Carrying its load

Across the vastness

Yes, known as Australia

an epic journey

Across what is

a tried and tested road

The Nullabor a Plain

a treeless area

A limestone Plain

that reaches near and far

The Spinfix Wangar Aboriginal people

made their home there

and crossing it by train, by truck by car

Is considered to be of truly great significance

Stickers and certificates apply

Its a former shallow seabed

With fossils by the billion

With saltbush and blue bush

Likely to lie

I never saw an Emu or a Kangaroo

I never saw the nymph

and I have to say

Already I am missing Dear Cristina

Who is now alas, so very far away.
