“Muriel”

A meaningless existence
Uncertainty and pain
Out there on the streets
Fighting ones corner yet again
Up against the traffic
The noise and people who
Really hAve no care atvall
For anyone like you
Rejected by society
Spurned by everyone
Stuck out in the wind and rain
And mostly in the sun
Looking for the shady spots
A rubbish tip somewhere
Often where There is litter
And few around to cAre

Flies and putrefaction
A malady or two
Infection and blood poisoning
It’s really what you do
Drinking stagnant water
Eating mouldy food
Being wholly septic
When a life gets crude

And Leads on to infection
Which is what happened to me
I am “ Muriel “
my face got swollen
My hAir was tousled we
Suffer badly on the streets
And it; was good when I
Was rescued by the angels
Who realised just why
They had to take me back to
The hospital that day
MY face and neck were swollen
It was paining me in a way
That made my head throb loudly
They were kind to me
Washed and cleaned my wounds and bandaged them
Up So beautifully

Really gave me comfort love and lots of care
Patted me and fed me
I was glad I was there
belly rubs and wow my tail was wagging
Night and day
Really I was happier
To be there and to say
