“Dory”

She was in a pitiful state alas
Lying in a ring
We picked her up and carried her
She was starved poor little thing
At hospital we sedated her
Cleaned her wounds and she
Had broken teeth and a fractured jaw
She had been in agony

But she really was a darling girl
And as soon as she came around
She was willing she was ready
To eat from the day we found
Her clearly she had not eaten
Nor drunk and clearly she
Was close to dying where she lay
But now extraordinarily

she was full of joyous banter
A few days down the line
Bouncing around the yard here
You can just define
The spirit and the energy
This darling girl had, she
Loved the cuddles that she got
She found them heavenly

“Dory” she was glory to us all
She loved to play
Wagged her tail and did never fail
To do tricks every day
Starved of real affection
A lost soul one might say
On the streets of Rajastan
Where all the streets dogs pay

A high price for their loneliness
Treated well like scum
Like garbage and they manage
Though life becomes quite numb
They just about get through the day
And then suffer the night
Loneliness is awful
Its something we all fight
