“Twilight”

An old street dog
Found lying in a gutter
Dirty water dragging himself along
A victim of a collision
With a vehicle
On his side just altogether wrong
A blind eye to the heavens
His good eye covered by
The water and the gulley
In A waking nightmare there he lie

Anguish angst and agony
His purgatory there
Condemned to such a setback
Framed in true despair

Were called and came to see
Wrapped him in a blanket
And just helped him to be

Out of further danger
Disconcerted as could be
Back at the hospital
Administered pain killers
And freely
Loved with shared affection
His woeful careworn state
So needing all that love and care
At a gentle rate

An I v drip to support him
In His weak and frantic state
Very emaciated
Trying to facilitate
By Day two he was just wobbling
Couldn’t walk alone
Gentle aiding and obliging
Clearly the pain and thrown

Him into shock and trauma
And then left on the street
Nobody to help him
In all that dust and heat
Nobody to love him
And when we are down and out
A helping hand a loving word
That’s what it’s about

Starved of care and loving
His injury was clear
Lying in filthy water
His bad eye made him fear
What was going on around him
So to be rescued must have been
Wonderful and to get support
From so many raised his scene

Tragically his eye was lost
But gradually we found
“Twilight” he took hold of life
And just loved being around
All the pats and kisses
And cuddles that he got
Helped him just get stronger
And we all love him a lot

And he knows it and he feels it
It’s a joy to see him here
He runs about and wags his tail
His recovery so clear
Taking his turn for the better
really pulling through
An old dog with a renewed gift
Of living which is true
