“Pirate”

A street dog
That had clearly
Gone through wars
For he
Had lost his leg
And had lost an eye
But despite that
Significantly
He was kind of philosophic
His expectations high
He was mindful and understanding
And his powers of thought
Were high

Clearly he had really suffered
Must have been in lots of pain
But instead of crying all the time
He tried to remain
Spirited and thoughtful
Full of real belief
That someone somewhere
Would come along
And give him some relief

We called him “Pirate”
He was such a jolly little lad
He had been badly injured
But he didn’t take it bad
When we went to find him
It was quite late at night
He really was in trouble
But we never thought he would bite
Or turn on us he was gentle
Enquiring and alone
We took him to the hospital
And not once did he groan

His leg was very very bad
And we had to amputate
His eye was really terrible
What was to be his fate
Life on Three legs and one eye
But as soon as he came around
His spirit showed
His tail was wagging
From side to side
And the hope in him just flowed

He had the will and purpose
His disposition good
It was so easy to love him
He was just so very good
And one of our angels
Tappu she took a shine to him
He was dogged and his joy
Was pouring from him actually
He was Such a lovely boy

Tappu and him were lovely friends
And the street dog had now found
A forever home for certain
And would always bound
Over to her, playful gentle
As could be
A new life they have both
Accepted
Reciprocity

He loves to play
He loves to be
With his latest friend
Both have found a harmony
Which they know will never end
A mutual understanding
A caring attitude
Look at them together
Their spirits just exude

Happiness
