THE IWC And the whalers

THE FAROES/ICELAND/JAPAN/NORWAY

Nationalistic lacking vision
Obsessed with culture they
Have a predilection and insular display
A jaundiced eye blind sided
My country right or wrong
Parochial a one-track mind
They don’t like to belong

To any association
That puts down rules and needs
They feel they are being persecuted
A short-sightedness that leads
Them onto tunnel vision
And very severe
Unbending of the majority
Its a lot to do with fear

They undervalue and misinterpret
And want to exercise
Their right however wrong some think it be
To realize
their misanthropic tendency
Which comes across we feel
As heartlessness and ruthlessness
But it is very real

And the whales are yes the scapegoats
For the arguments abroad
These great souls are the victims
They should be our reward
As humane beings on this planet
With animal tribes around
Each giving something special
Of themselves which I have found

The miracle of creation
Cetaceans rule the sea
The oceans are gigantic
Great depths ofcourse there be
We all should have a thankfulness
And recognize their gift
Not send our ships to hunt them down
And just give them short shrift

Lack of appreciation
And ungratefulness its there
Each country has its scapegoats
Its transgressions what is fair
To one is not to another
But we all know what is wrong
We just have different meanings
As to where we do belong

The majority believe that
Murdering animals is right
There is a growing movement
That its wrong but pushed out of sight
In slaughterhouses
Sequestered unadverstized
But there
Millions of victims meet their end
In bloodied despair

The four countries above
Each have these outlets
As we do
They kill all the conventional
Souls
And, all torture them too
But its all done behind closed doors
We dont see Flesh or blood
We dont hear screams
We dont see streams
Of sinew or a flood

We know, that its happening
In one end in and out the other
All chopped up and packaged
So to have another
Good think about Japan
And Iceland who both feel
The need to hunt on the high seas
For they have whale appeal

And they flense it in the open
Where our cameras can see
The gruesomeness of killing
Its below our dignity
To accept that we are causing
This carnage because we
Want to eat whatever food
Is provided so freely

Its in our face we know it
We are reminded constantly
Some look away they get upset
They do not want to see
They prefer the sanistized versions
On the market trays
All the countries that engage with whales
Are enjoying the same phase

They are not indigenous people
Using native rights
They employ the age old methods
Brought up to date, the fights
Between the taiji dolphins
And the faroes whales
Are bitterly hard to witness
When we see pregnant females

The fetus torn from their bodies
We cannot bear to see
To think about the carnage
Thats happening constantly
And so we tell those countries
Stop this murdeting spress
Leave the whales alone
We have enough food
Actually

They have retained their norseness
The neanderthal approach
Of hand harpooning these mammals
Whether they encroach
on us
Or we go looking for them
Endangered possibly
But getting our heads around all this
Its too much it seems to me

None of those countries are starving
Abundance is with all
Whales are special to the ocean
And the oceans are the call
Of the wild and we must respect that
The wild souls shouldnt be
Murdered as they are around the world
Unsustainably

I think we have to try and understand
The norse idea
the sea provides their sustenance
For me that is clear
All countries have sent whalers out
To hunt in years before
But realised and went along
With the reason to abhor

Such killings and the IWC
the cooperative ofcourse
The oceans need the great cetaceans
They all extract its force
Creation knows the values
Man though unfortunatly
Is picking on the species
With regularity

There is no need for whales these days
To be hunted as before
To see the pilots slashed and torn to ribbons
On the shore
To see great whales in iceland
Dragged back to the dock
And flensed with those unyielding tools
Ofcourse it is a shock

These Roquals are endangered
And just belly Or fluke
The second largest cetacean
It does make people puke
A waste of life the miracle of life
Created for
The oceans they are part of all of us
And for evermore

Pollution and destruction
And over fishing we
All now have a duty of care
We all must see
There is a case for conscience
For an ethical regard
Be socially responsible
And really push this hard

MY hope with understanding
The four nations will think
We all need much more respectfulness
For I fear we have reached the brink
All the whales command respect
Each and every one
And its up to humane beings
To watch them in the sun

To understand their need to thrive
And not be hunted to
Extinction let the familes be
Its disloyal what we all do
We know the population
Is rising by the day
But we must not act like neanderthals
More compassion From today
