Panoptes by name he was called
A Jeremy Benson Smacks of control
His system of design clearly schooled
Prison apparently given to watchmen
Watching but not being seen
Based on deception
Not the reception for truth
One might call that quite mean
An illusion a falseness even deceit
A diversion a hoax maybe so
But this is the sculpture
In East Lancashire
A series of pipes
That just flow
Sounds kind of emanate
Cast by the wind
But the meaning is watchful
Perhaps
An underlying artfulness here
Tongue in cheek possibly chaps
