The attic

The attic offers comfort
To mouse mummy for she knows
She is heavily pregnant
And daily now she grows

She has urgently to build a nest
Warm and safe for she
Will have her babies very soon
And needs must actually

She wanders around the clutter
And finds an old mattress
Where
Some bed bugs have taken refuge
But thinks that she can share

the other end where it is holed
And large enough
And so she must
Find some nest material
And get out of the dust

She finds a big old jumper
Being eaten up there she
Notices the moth grubs
And has a few for tea

She uses some of the woollen bits
And takes them to ber plAce
Eats a few more moth grubs
And back to her nest does race

Back inside the mattress
She makes her nest for she
Is desperate now to
Settle and give birth
And easily

Sits there in her boudoir
And before you can say cat
15 pink blind mickey mice
Have joined where she is at

Tiny little babies
Rolling here and there
She must give them lots of milk
Which all of them will share

The maternal instinct
Coming through today
Up fhere in seclusion
New life gets underway
