WInter’s yule gift to some of its flock

Yule was no fool
He was wiser than most
He loved sough dough bread
And yeast extract on toast

A big bowl of oat groats
To warm him all through
And hot water and lemon
Which made him feel new

It had been fairly mild
And it was Christmas Eve
Wet, clearly set
or so I believe

For a long frosty day
and as the story goes
YUle was no fool
And so what he chose

Was to honour his friends
Just for one day
And save all their lives
So now let me say

The dormouse had woken
And wanted to eat
Masses of nuts
For him such a treat

He had to get fat
As fat as could be
So hibernation
Was not so risky.

The tawny owls
would be wanting to eat
The domouse that ran
Full of nuts such a treat

But eating the dormouse
Was not seen as good
So the gift that was given was life
And it should

Be appreciated
and so the owl
Was told Leave
the dormouse alone
To cry foul

The birds were all told leave the snails
On the ground
and the slugs and the worms
Don’t make a sound

All of you live on this Christmas day
No accidents no injuries stay safe
I say
I am old Winter and my gift to you
Is you all remain safe
Till this year is through

Then the cycle of nature
Comes back in play
You must be observant
In every way
Prey animals predatorx
instinctively must
Remember the order
And really be just

In all that you do
Do not over eat
Each needs their life
Each loves that treat
Be courtous always
With so much respect
And love for each other
And try to protect
The weakest the oldest
The sick and infirm

For life is so beautiful
The flea and the worm
Each have their place
And we all do today
And to all of my dear friends
This I do say

Thankyou for bringing me into your life
For sharing my poems and easing my strife
Thank you for being a part of my soul
And helping me truthfully just to control
My pain and discomfort for without you all
It would have been difficult so
thankyou dear YULE

For granting my wish for the creatures around
Who all need a gift thats what I have found
It matters not what it is as long as it comes
