Lion Day

I hear today it’s lion Day
We all must contemplate
How much our Lions are losing
Their homes at such a rate
And this is because of humans
And their relation to
All the wild souls in the world
Yes probably you too

Your wish to live in the countryside
Is growing by the day
And the Lion is losing habitat
For it seems they are in our way
The King of Beasts who sleep most of the time
Apparently
Need a space to live and die
And to wander free

The human being tragically for Lions
Believes that he
Can by the great white hunter
And offer purgatory
To any would be whispered soul
Who ambles passed his door
With gun or bow of course we know
Hunting now is more

Trophy canned and more of it
Their vigilance their roar
When anybody heard it
It can reach into your core
Excite you its intensity
It’s courage through and through
But the problem for the lion today
Is probably down to you

Human beings want it all
Their numbers by the day
Are growing and extending
There is no getting away
From humans and the wild souls
Are suffering like mad
Powerful in a wild place
Dealing with the sad

Affects of so called humans
Who tear down their terrain
Who shoot the lions as trophies
Some kudos some do gain
The likes of the Walter Palmers
Who lured a wondrous soul
Out of its safe area
Then just took control

And of course he got away with it
lions don’t stand a chance
They can be tagged and collared
But money talks to dance around
With lots of dollar bills
Will persuade so many they
Can risk their reputations
To earn some extra pay

lions in prides are social beasts
The ladies carry on
They raise the Cubs
They hunt the game
They always are upon
Their teamwork is impressive
Like females everywhere
They are the marrow in the bones
Of life and so we share

Their love and their attractiveness
We marvel at their nerve
The grasslands and the plains eat up
Their spirit and their verve
They can run fifty miles per hour
And leap into the sky
And they support the male Lions
Though sometimes Cubs will die

If a new pretender comes in to show his paw
And beats up the existing male
Then something none can ignore
Is the Cubs may get a beating
And many sadly die
The new king needs his genes alive
And that dear friends is why

The Lion is such a champion
Up against us all
And now in Southern Africa
lion bones are now on call
The Chinese traditional Doctors
Have their certain belief
And sadly many Lions today
Their life knows pure grief

it can be blood and thunder
When the poachers come around
And the Lions are given short shrift
Just slaughtered on the ground
Wildness is a virtue
But hunting parties now
Pay their big fat green backs
And show the wild life how

Corruption is a man thing
Greed is everywhere
Arrogance is their big disease
The ensuing despair
The vital loss of habitat
The ugliness of man
These so called bloody hunters
I for one am not a fan

They raise their so called adrenaline
By their ammunition pile
Point their murderous tendency
Just for a little while
Come out in their four by fours
With rangers at their side
And the poor caged souls are shot to death
And their spirit is denied

It will end up on some dusty wall
Stuffed and falling free
Shipped across the ocean
To a hall where it will be
Gazing down with its glass eyes
Stuffed with kapok too
Resembling the great beast it once was
Yes one of the few

LIons that roamed in Africa
That lived a great life there
Before these bastards came on the scene
Spreading their despair
Slaughtering the predators
Ruining it all
They couldn’t use their cameras
Just their guns yea to walk tall

But are now they are seen as mini men
Who pay their way to hell
Get near them for a moment
They have a horrid smell
Their ignorance and arrogance
A state of mind that they
Were born with they are the monsters
Whose hearts are in decay

Written especially for Lion Day today
