Lamenting

We are the giants of this land called Earth
Gentle natured, we
Are social animals much like you
And once were wild and free
Our land was rich and fertile
The wild plants and wild trees
Gave us natural sustenance
But so few now hear our plea’s

The two legs steal our precious lands
And tear down all the trees
Pollute the pools and rivers
Bring us to our knees
With our sacred paths dug up
And concreted over our sanctity
Is being lost forever
We are now no longer free

And we have to say we are desperate
As man edges closer, we
Move back its true with no where to go
But graze now where they be
Growing crops we need to eat
All wild souls have to share
The wild plants which is why
We come why we do come there

Electric fencing its of course
The brand new big idea
Our massive weight and bulk
Is of no use
For now our fear
Of being electrocuted
Just so we may eat
Already 5 of our tribe are dead
This idea has us beat

Encroachment of our natural lands
By two legs is a sin
Its wrong to take another’s land
If we share then we all win
But keeping us away from what is ours
Is sinful too
And poisoning our water
For the ivory will not do

We are basically gentle giants
We have no need to kill
Two legs we eat the vegetation
Blood we will not spill
But two legs bring their arrogance
And their ignorance of us
To bear they will not share
And the make such a fuss

Kenya is our home of homes
And on its earth we roam
Along the Kathila river
Where the BANTU people comb
The North Eastern slopes
Its prime terrain
Our movements they call invasion
We are the indigenous too
Of gentle persuasion

Despite our iconic nature
History shows us, we
Have to fear these two legs
For all their infamy
Working us exploiting us
Breaking us so they
Can entertain more two legs
Who actually come and pay

To see us in the circus
Or perhaps in their zoo
Standing on the concrete
And giving rides to you
Capturing us and working us
We become your slave
Mahouts become our masters
And we have to just save

Our faces every which way
If we kill we know
The rifles fire those bullets
That in our bodies glow
We become just fodder
For the vultures who may fly
And the maggots who will strip our flesh
And the two legs by and by

We come at night we try to be
Quiet and all we do
Is eat some food which all of us need
Yes my friends even you
What if your shops were empty
What if your crops were gone
What if you had no food to eat
would you just lie down upon
The earth and wait for death to come
Wait for the predators who
Would eat our flesh would indulge themselves
Remaining clueless to

The path the true long path of life
That creation set before
The ancestral wealth is eternal
Its what we are, all here for
But the two legs want our ivory
And enslave our gentleness
And murder us and fail us
And fill our world with stress

The pachyderms are suffering
And few are there to see
To hear us cry to see our sadness
And to try and be
Sensitive to our predicament
To our suffering to our woe
All they want is what we have got
And just want us to go

Leave this land called earth
For them
To plunder and pollute
Their air to fill with filth and dirt
And all live souls to shoot
Canned hunt us and take our body parts
As trophies for their wall
We are now inclined to just lay down and die
And you can rule

Your war torn radioactive lands
Mined and fracked to death
All your forests laid waste
As your people fight for breath
The oceans dying rapidly
Beaching everywhere
Extinctions coming daily
In a world of dark despair
