Raju

RAJU has just been taken from his life
Of cruelty
Transported more than 300 miles
By truck now fortunately
It was a hairy rescue
The owner tried real hard
Expecting the Ele to run them down
To really mark their card

But he sensed it was going to be
A rescue and stayed calm
Chained and tortured for years on end
He had come to so much harm
He body was racked with injuries
With wounds and cuts and scars
He had been whipped and kicked
And bull hooked
And had seen many stars

His skin was dry and lifeless
His legs arthritic and sore
His feet were full of bloody lesions
His tail bared and so sore
His rotten previous owner
Had plucked out all the hair
To sell it to the tourists as good luck
Charms Aware
No not on your nellie nobody is aware
To the cruelty and the savagery
And the punishment thats there

He is highly intelligent
As his rescue had begun
He actually cried his heart out
He was happy with what they had done
His legs were chained and bleeding
And very very sore
He was suffering so very much
And he couldn’t take much more

Poor Raju is now housed in a sanctuary
Away far away from the mad man who
Hurt him every day
For fifty solid years poor Raju
Cried his heart out and
Had to do all sorts menial tasks
Across the land

Which is why his feet were painful
With very ugly scars
He was fed on paper and plastic
And little bars
Of wood no real nutritious food
His body wasting away
He must have dreamed forever
Of this special day

He is already walking free
Not one chain he wears
What this feels like to raju
Must answer all his prayers
He couldn’t run the rescuers down
As his previous masters ruled
He was gentle he was masterful
He just carefully hauled

His tired and wretched body
Forward into the truck
Slowly he walked as many talked
His previous life did suck

We must really feel his agony
His frustration no wonder he
Was going down hill every day
Really rapidly
His skin colour was awful the cracking
Very sore
Nobody cared about him
Its as if they were at war

They never did look after him
His nutrition was a mess
Nobody really loved him
All he got was stress
How he didn’t top himself
And run into the town
Well clearly this sad life
Of his
It really got him down

And now the end of suffering
Is closer than we all think
He is now in a sanctuary
Taken off from the brink
The torture that was handed out
Was abysmal from the start
Metered out by a junkie
Who never possessed a heart
