Summer solstice at Roll Rights

Roll Rights was so peaceful
The light was really clear
You could see the whole of Chipping Norton
Just from standing here
looking over the labyrinth vital and so green
Observing all those lovely fields and dales
There in between

The trees were making music to the wind that
Plucked the leaves
The circle looked resplendent all the stones
It just achieves
an optimism really
The vitality that’s there
You feel exhilarated
And you cast out all despair

Some Friends were there already
Sitting on the floor
In the East some did feast
And I knew for sure
The ritual would be special
The Sun God dressed in gold
Sported a mask and a cloak of red
And his trusty staff did hold

Accompanied by the faery queen
In a dress of snowy white
With a crown of golden roses
Of herbs and pure sunlight
And hosts of others personages
And a very merry throng
All waiting for the ritual
With hearts packed full of song

The arch druid was Veronica
She just flows in what she does
She has that earnest sparkle
And helps everything to buzz
The sky was brushed with wisps of white
But generally was blue
And the sun was up there peering down
Waiting to burst through

Some 90 people joined us
And the Sun God joined in too
Seated in his throne of green
As generally Sun God’s do
Seated around him 7 souls
With burning incense
They
Comforted the sun god
Who stood up (just about)and he did say

It was a triumphant message
Of geniality
And when he sat down
The dancers came
With distinct vivacity
They threaded and they wistfully
Conjured their display
And made us all feel happy
In their very charming way

The ritual then continued
Offerings were made
Everyone partook of mead
And cake
So as to aid
To give a spot of strengthening
Before the talking stick
Where everyone tells everyone
Who they are and that’s the trick
Or some can sing or recite something
And everyone takes part
Bringing us all together
And giving the ritual, heart
By now the sun was heating up
The ritual underway
We finished with the Ho ho ho
A breath holding display

Holding hands the sunniness
The party spirit flows
The cheeriness the happiness
Everybody knows
It leaves us in high spirits
And hilarity
Filing out of the portal
We all said goodbye and we
Gave blessings to the friends
We had made and went home gracefully

The stones were very magical
And the light was bright and clear
The high breeze just made music
With the tall trees around here
With the wild flowers and the farmland
It was wonderment and glee
A perfect place when “the sun stands still”
For our solstice you will agree.
