The elephant and the circus

Of all the great animals out there

the elephant does comes to mind

a giant so powerful yet passive

and circus has left them behind

they lived in great families together

respect was a keyword and they

walked very far they followed their star

miles and miles sometimes each day

so to catch them  confine them

on a chain in a truck

travelling  tethered to somewhere

that’s when they know that their luck

has flown

and in many ways they

bring on their dose of dissension

it helps them to get through each day

proudly they stand with such grandeur

they are remarkable souls

but chained up and beaten

it leads to some hatred

having to take on fresh roles

in their hearts they are

in disagreement

confused really

ready to feel

bull hooks hurt so much

when used in a rage

and they are used

and the scars they are real

not just on the skin

but within their big  hearts

the memory of them

is there

it can never leave

an elephants soul

they live with a lasting despair

and a kind of defiance

and out dare of sorts

it just sits and festers

in the back of their thoughts

its a challenge they face

in a circus where they

are expected to do tricks

and expected to pay

to withstand  to resist

in the struggle abroad

a submission of weakness

they cannot afford

they succumb

to the shadows

the  mean violence too

trying to reconcile

what people do

its pure  resignation

surrendering to

the man with  the bull hook

the ringmaster who

creates this adversity

every day

the wretched confusion

that does tend to stay

in the heart and the mind

the legitimacy

chained up for hours

by the masterful trainer

with  his new found powers

how he put his foot down

his tyrannical stance

harsh and exacting

to brutally chance

a rest can be dangerous

for  much can be done

when you are chained up

and stuck in the sun

They are the masters

your their protege

you have no freedom

you have no say

you could try to escape

break those chains and be gone

but the guns they would blaze

and no longer upon

this mortal coil

would you breathe in the air

you’d

be lost in a shower of steel bullets

there

and who wants that end

so submission must be

the acceptance of prison

and base cruelty

there is never a compromise

it has to be

you are the servant

it happened to me

doing the tricks

and just staying calm

anything else

and you will come to harm

so the elephants go within themselves they

suffer in silence

acquiring the way

to give of themselves

and expect nothing back

and hope above all else

they don’t get a whack

the circus is no place for animals they

should be in the jungle

far far away

from the circus the show rings

the evil that’s there

we are thieves to entrap them

so so unaware

of the subjection

that we put them through

we get on with our lives

and expect they do too

but it builds they resent it

like cancer it grips

their soul and their lives

and their true meaning slips

into an unconscious state

of affairs

their sweet responsiveness

it kind of scares

it becomes lethargy

it becomes pain

a cold cynicism

that life is in vain

spiritless they soon descend

into grief

impenetrable

and there’s no relief

its a lasting torture

callous and true

till they go to the the Summerland

which some will do

the circus is no place

for spirited souls

its a hell on earth prison

run by dark arse oles

frequented by pikeys

and low life and those

ticketless yobs

oft in the throes

of some evil doing

some criminal stuff

for the ele

the life of the circus is rough

animal rights

takes the stance of their king

hopeful that one day

its going to bring

freedom

its coming but governments say

they will ban wild animals

then run away

from the truth from the responsibility they

have

and that is the sadness today
