Palm oil and us the orangutans

Everything has palm oil in it

do you really care

do you check the labels

are you now aware

look at us they’ve captured us

we’re all tied up in knots

we’re arborial apes you know

and a bunch of snots

took down all our favorite trees

its more palm oil for you

and we are being shipped off to some

park somewhere or zoo

we don’t want to go there

in some aeroplane

crated up and in that cold hold

its a bloody strain

and how is that fair really

to ship us miles away

we dont want live no more

we don’t want to pay

we just loved the forest

serenity was ours

everywhere was tranquil

all sorts of fruits and flowers

it was an enchanted kingdom

to bask in everyday

we were  always starry eyed

up there we could play

sleep up in the canopy

gratified to be

safe and sound

far off the ground

in some ecstacy

then we heard those bloody saws

we smelled the smoke

and saw

the fires the dust

the complete disgust

we felt that in our core

palm oil all those fan like fronds

darkness was to be

imported into all that light

its not the place for me

we were brought down rapidly

and tied up as you saw

and we are off to London or

Paris, we’re not sure

that will be something to endure

its wretched  and we know

sorrowful and downtrodden

and of course we have to go

we do not have a say in this

our destiny is lost

the harshness and the roughness

it has to be our cost

unless of course you humans

start seeing what you buy

start telling these great corporates

that you dont want us to die

we dont want to lose the forests

its not ever fair

tell the likes of Waitrose

that you now are aware

tell the likes of Tesco and Sainsburys

that you know

they are making money

and we are suffering so

if you lot can get on our case

then may be some wont be

shipped across the air

or over the blue sea

we’re the people of the forest

arborial thats we

live up in the tall high tops

of the great green tree

not down in the litter

not in some dark zoo

we don’t want to be there

and for sure that’s true
