Wild Elephants and their Ivory

The world has got a problem

the emerging China trade

as the poorerthere get richer

Culture is displayed

before them, and the Ivory

becomes something to buy

for its rarity and its luxury

and as  status

it is high

many just divorce

the aspects from the living beast

they don’t consider animals rights

that’s something they think of least

from surveys conducted throughout China

the ominous result

was over 80% of them

want Ivory, an insult

to Elephants in so many ways

because whatever countries do

it appears that Chinese people

have now  taken the view

that that is what is wanted

and the only way ahead

is ban it altogether

otherwise The Elephant’s  dead

and in Europe too there are markets

culture  blamed again

on the face of it the Elephant is doomed

to more deaths and pain

people do not care  a bit

for  animals today

as they gain some status

in their lives

they want to play

own nice things

like Ivory its what they feel

is right

Elephants have no chance

despite their powerful might

forceful and demanding

unyielding and resolute

but up against the poachers

whose power is absolute

they have no chance

for money speaks

the words are profit based

its easy money for the few

a factor to be faced

alienate the traders

ban ivory world wide

death sentences for all poachers

try to turn the tide

unless its at this level

the elephant will be

just a picture in a book

like the mammoth was to me
