Poem for the elephants losing their lives in Africa and India to Ivory poachers

We are the last remaining Elephants

and of ofcourse now we

cry our hearts yes we do

for its our tragedy

our herds are being slaughtered

by bad men of your tribe

who use their kalashnikov’s freely

and are ready just to bribe

locals, anybody

to get to, where we are

where they can come, and murder us

its our ivory, that scar

us all

hack off

those splendid tools

and leave us to bleed out

we now need you to help us

and not be in any doubt

each of you can make a difference

rally some support

the agony of having tusks ripped off

how hard we’ve fought

to stand our ground against them

but our battles been alone

we need you goodly human earthlings

for each little seed you’ve sown

along the plains and forests

wherever Ele’s go

if you are thinking of us all

then it will help to grow

all the wild souls

all the really splendid feral friends

there are humans who love us

and we hope that never ends.
