The deer considered over the top

An over friendly wild deer
was murdered just today
the Ministry of the Environment
had something more to say
inappropriate behaviour
conservationists had said
they destroyed a life it seems to me
for what in fact had led
to this was its pure loving nature
a love for all around
it nuzzled up to people
just lying on the ground
it was a special sort of love
and that was seen as grim
animals can’t experience love
they are just too dim
the tragedy was mismanaged
clearly the deer was good
and for being over zealous
and so misunderstood
conservation officers
going from the book
thought they’d better kill him
and so his life they took
no one was more surprised than he
as their needle they did press
he felt the sudden pang of death
his more was really less
they killed him
conservation
the meaning they don’t now
their judgement had been shot away
with little left to show
the deer was gone for ever
for being kind and sweet
a lesson to the others
keep your distance, meet
your maker if you try it on
for conservation rules
but conservation means all sorts
of things, to silly fools.
