“Oliver” the Bear from Shandong province

When Animals Asia rescued
dear old Oliver
they knew that he was suffering
in great pain
in a cage for 30 years
one look and you feel your tears
welling up inside
life was the bane
of every hour of every day
of everything he did
he couldn’t stand
he was buckled over
he just could not get rid
of the metal jacket with
spikes on it sticking in his neck
stopping him from lifting his head
making him check
and being like this all that time
hunched over he became
stiff and just arthritic
his lungs compressed the same
problems being in that state
his teeth were broken by
biting the bars his frustration
its not hard to see why
his eyes were closed
one eye had burst imagine
the great pain
they were taking bile out of him
for their financial gain
the soreness of an open wound
and infection its so bad
he must have reached his lowest point
he must have felt so sad

Leaving Shandong province
on a truck in Winter time
they had do some surgery on him
he couldn’t climb, anywhere
so they had to do it on the truck
and he
just had to be up to it
and he was, hopefully
some TLC some good food
and the absence of the bile
allowing his body to recover a bit
and just try and reconcile, himself
with what is happening
how fortunate to be
rescued and looked after
after years of purgatory

he must feel so dejected
being in so much pain
and being helped a lot
you remember it again
it brings it all back to you
those 30 long long years
those nights when you were crying
and sharing all your tears

with the concrete and the metal bars
for nobody did care
you could bellow till you were yellow
for nobody could share
his wildness probably set him up
for the boredom and the pain
but the period to be alone
of course is bound to drain

Oliver will get some help
and love will come his way
and probably he will get the chance
to walk and somehow play
extend his legs a little
and breathe some nice fresh air
and drink some lovely water
and be glad he’s not back there

it will never ever leave him
he will harp back to those days
but if he can now look forward
and build up little ways
of getting some enjoyment
an interface or two
perhaps his last years on this earth
he will get a better view

of humanity its not easy
he might go to his grave
remembering the bad times
and recall now just how brave
he was not to give up on it
to battle on and feel
there was a chance however slim
and its now happened for real

So our eyes are all on Oliver
the dear old rescued Bear
who took the 30 years of pain
where nobody did care
he was just a bile machine
he was violated so
beaten into submission
so he couldn’t even grow

he couldn’t even develop
his bones were cranked back so
he became subjected
to such torture down below
its mesmerizingly simple
the pain he’s had to bear
but despite all what he’s gone through
he must now be aware

and lets hope he finds some solace
lets hope the pain subsides
lets hope his new found freedom
kind of helps and rides
towards a better outlook
and a feeling which would be
more positive and looking forward
to some creativity

to some better thoughts
and a lowering in the various bouts
of pain
some help it will be happening
and releasing some strain
some good food in his stomach
to help him through the night
and that sleep will kind of soften him
and make his outlook bright.
