The fur coat(and what lies behind it)

Some put down success in life
to what they can afford
perhaps a mink coat
hanging in their wardrobe
their reward
this insensitive philosophy
based on human greed
should be thought through
a little more
and the question as to need
raised in all our psyche
who needs the fur coat more
the creatures who were born with it
or some human who will ignore
the factor that they have skin
but want another’s too
so they can wear it over there’s
parading as they do

its a sort of a one-upmanship
me compared to you
look I mean I’ve made it
and look what I can do
but what can you do actually
just hand over your dough
and behind the scenes
the carnage that you cause
you don’t choose to know
but Mink are little animals
created for a cause
so lets stop for a moment
yes, just a little pause
to consider why an animal
was created after all
was it for your fur coat?
that thought should appal
its because it has its place
in life
on the planet we all share
human earthlings
animal earthlings
we are everywhere
and each of us have meaning
have wishes and desires
each raises a family
contributes works and tires
but man un kind creates
his world and fills it full of sin
he keeps his public ignorant
if all knowing he may not win
the contracts he is after
and so of course we see
the designers and the
fashion houses trying desperately
to keep the real truths from us all
by playing on the dream
of owning such a wondrous garment
the creme of the cream
but awful things have happened
terrible torture, we
do not see the awful farms
and the poor creatures who be
holed up in the satanic cages
till they all go mad
or the living souls that are captured
and now it gets so sad
each one is hung upon a hook
and whilst it struggles we
strip off all its living skin
egregiously
as it bleeds and pants and cries
we, yes turn away
we, block our ears
we stem our tears
what we do is pay
we give our cheques and credit cards
to those torturers in time
who created those satanic farms
and those pits of slime
who tortured and who slaughtered
those animals once wild
and they did this without compassion
even to every child
baby, pregnant female it mattered not
for they
were making lots of money
and knew that you would pay
whatever they exacted
because you didn’t know
the cruelty they all went through
so you my dear could go

parading through the busy streets
or to the Princes ball
could show off your real mink attire
and really all would fall
at your feet regarding
you as a queen of sorts we’d show
respect and understanding
but we don’t want to know

This is basically what I said from my heart last evening at the Berkhamsted Toastmasters Club I do things differently from most
I do not write speeches now I speak from the heart and write a poem the next day.
