Racing(and what they think of horses that don’t win)

Its all about the winners
the money its the game
the punters and the bookies
you know its all the same
the jockeys
and the trainers
and the experts
yea them all
but the horses
if their losing
or blimey if they fall
no one cares a sausage
honest no one cares
put them down that’s the end
no hard and fast rule
but the emphasis is on money
and everything costs loads
and if a horse can hack it
then its unlikely that it bodes
well for future prospects
and take “charmed hour”
recently snapped a cannon bone
in her second race
the power
needed to compete
is so much and inevitably
there are many victims
which nobody does see
they are all around the jockey
and the trainer
but the horse is carried off
and that’s its lot
ends up in the slaughterhouse
another victim shot
from stardom to the graveyard
horses sadly they
are the victims of this
horrid sport
that’s how it seems to be

but then the other competitors
first or second pays
but 15th well its had it
it can count the days
when if that is the situation
then alas it may
also be a victim
for nobody will pay
all the costs available
if there is no return
its all about the business
there must be, ample return

Saratoga witnessed the passing
of this horse
heard the crack of the cannon bone
going up the course
the agony was sheer
the horse was clearly pained
in those frantic moments
when everything was strained
