Poem for Lily

There is no need to eat a cat
nor wear a dog
not boil some frog
a spider climbing down my wall
its philosophy on it I call
a fly its caught and slowly binds
kind of stills those avid minds
a vegan has the choice and they
are resigned to sharing and they pay
attention to those earthlings who
share the space and share their view
there’s no need to eat a bird
to cook a rat just seems absurd
there is no use to watch a calf
in the slaughterhouse cut in half
I welcome those who tenderly
pull up leaves to share with me
blood is not the drink we choose
we do not murder or abuse
this spirit is the one we share
our love is vital everywhere
hold hands lets walk the path together
sharing breath and knowing whether
our friends care or pass us by
for we cuss no one, and we never sigh
not out loud for those who would
leave us to walk where we know we should
alone maybe, but with heartfelt thought
all animal earthlings to support
