Canine woes

To be measured by
the numbers of bodies
you bring back each day
is a clearly defined strategy
of making the defenceless pay
a price too high to
contemplate
bereft of mortal sense
but brought about
by the heartless others
who left them outside the fence
or who left them on the highway
dumped them
so to say
creating in them so much angst
which time can’t take away
