The worlds people bow down before you

We should apologize
to elephants
for what we put them through
the largest of land animals
and, what do we do

we torture them
we restrain them
we force them to be slaves
work them like the clappers
and reward them
as if knaves

we break them
make them perform tricks
imprison them in zoo’s
makes them transport
kids about
and we just abuse

we bash them
with sharp bull hooks
we steal their tusks
at will
we should be apologizing
and the lot of us now will

“sorry all you elephants
out there in this world”
beaten up and made to work
in circus where your hurled
into travelling cages
you are forced to go
from town to town
doing what you do
it must get you down

on concrete roads
that crack your feet
its all wrong really so
and when we look into your eye
we know, yes that you know

we observe your tired old faces
as we put you through our paces
even make you run in races
and what have you to show

just sadness and lack of freedom
which of course you know
