Italy’s dirty big secret

Its isn’t just spaghetti
and Pinot Grigio
tucked away in villa’s
from Tuscany to Po
but huddled in the countryside
amongst the citrus trees
sometimes we hear the little cries
of fur bearers who seize
a little opportunity to
voice their stupefaction
from being holed up in their cells
hopeful for some reaction
Italy has more farms
than any other place
Chinchillas and of course the Mink
the verdant hills do grace
its is an evil paradise
for behind these closed doors
hells breaks out
there is no doubt
on dark and dusty floors
thousands of these small creatures
are imprisoned all their lives
the only crime they committed
having fur, that survives
for them until the market place
is ready and a buyer’s found
then its a poker up the arse
electrocution and not a sound
just a subtle smell of burning
from the anus and the pain
look into their tiny eyes
for they are not insane
its the farmers that are beastly
that create this hell on earth
that imprison them for ages
that rear them and at birth
who consign them to this
hell hole, to this place of
ill repute
where their treated very badly
for its profit at the root
and the less it costs to keep them
the more goes in the bank
really their lives are terrible
and their conditions rank

but the coats they stitch together
for the rich and famous who
show off their vile collections
as many of them do
are made up of so many
dead bodies many hearts
lungs and livers hit the dust
or end up in the carts
are rolled off to the dog house
where pet food makers say
the richness of the offal
it just makes their day

its a dirty secret
for the furriers who make
an awful lot of profit
but the buyers are not awake
they don’t realise particularly
the agony and pain
the terrible conditions
or the wilfulness of strain

why should they, they pay thousands
for their coats and seemingly
are up against the world
when they wear them for they be
advertising terror and really stunning pain
an evil in the practice
it is ill gotten gain

there has to be and end to this
creation never saw
the reasoning behind the trade
and all the blood and gore
Creation was protecting
the creatures from the cold
and didn’t stop to realise
how it would be sold

and clearly this has stumped the
wider universe for they
didn’t imagine that man could stoop
to such low depths every day
by murdering these babies
by farming them as slaves
by murdering them in their millions
and not providing graves

Italy’s dirty secret
is out now and we know
that hidden in the countryside
are farms
where Hell can show
its ugly dirty rotten face
amongst the vineyards where
possibly the Pinot Grigio
does sometimes share

the local air and water
and a summery breeze
but hidden in the darkness
the creatures cough and wheeze
fed on nest to nothing
and tortured all their days
before they are just murdered
in the nastiest of ways.
