An Ibizan hound
she was
an ancient breed
and here because
in truth a joyful
playful sweet
but abused and exploited
these hunters were not discreet
leishmania had taken
her she couldn’t bear to stand
and so they dumped her in some field
just left her to the land
hopeful she would die and rot
or be eaten before some
people found her what a message
this provides dumb
dogs we know are worked to death
and clearly “Queen” here was
but she can beat the trip to heaven
really now because
When healthy she would run about
work her butt each day
but as soon as she slowed down
she was cast out and left to pay
the terrible consequences
humility alas
not part of the hunting scene
just a muddy morass
we can save her
and get her adopted
