Cuddly Koala’s (aboriginal name for animal that never drinks) Inspired by Marika

Like so many other
animals, existing in
the wild
encroachment by the
human population
now has piled
stresses on communities
of Koala’s for they be
very fussy eaters
their intensive dietary
perhaps a dozen types of gum
which is really not that much
and being so specific
logging well its such
a horrendous shock and they
have lost some 80% of the trees
along the way
the 20% that’s left
not all now please
on private land
the only choice
the Koala doesn’t have a voice
they compete with humans
all the time
as most of us now know
the animal earthlings come
off worse
for humans tend to be
selfish when it comes to those
wild animals now free
their cats and dogs will
kill them
and already they must be
aware of Dingo’s, Foxes
and feral dogs, yes we
can’t start to really
understand the stress
Koala’s feel
and stress is very weakening
as their poor health
does reveal
chlamydia is wiping out
a lot of them, I hear
pneumonia and conjunctivitis
its the threat,the fear
it gets to all these
sentient souls
it really drags them down
and cars that travel
far too fast when
they are out of town
cause many to be road kills
goannas take a few
eagles owls and pythons
are there to eat some too

Arborial marsupials
are balanced in the trees
nice sharp claws
so well adapted
on, foraging sprees
of course they are nocturnal
sleeping in the day
when ts hot conserving water
it has to be the way
their nose is, so so sensitive
it must differentiate
those Eucalypt’s that it can eat
and those it doesn’t rate
the best trees grow on fertile soil
the poor soil tend to be
trees that are more poisonous
its so stressful actually

years ago the hunters came
their fur was shipped away
a lot of it was utilized
in the USA
but now they are endangered
the Eastern side of OZ
is about the only place you’ll find
them well you know because
of the human population
we are a threat to all
every living earthling
short, fat skinny, tall
if only we could act as though
we were sentient then we
could live together side by side
throughout eternity.

The pesticides that we apply
the stuff we spray about
bush fires really that’s enough
for any who still doubt
land clearance, mining
Forestry and the miles and miles
of road
die back trees
Can you can feel the stress
of having no fixed abode
