Reptiles matter (but to who)

Exotic that’s the terminology
that humans use
when dealing with the
Reptile clan
more species
they abuse
adaptation through
the aeons
clearly their
advanced design
around man’s prehistoric
timeline
even then considered fine
so not a lot of changes
really
some would say
grotesque appears
a just description
of the species
engendering
a wealth of fears

clad in skins
of mottled magic
evolved to silently
display
a camouflage of watery
wisdom
where ambush often
is the way
a rigour and a
true deflection
big or small
this species seems
to evolve a majesty
of being
that writhes
from some
nightmarish dreams
Snake and Lizard
Alligator Cayman
and the Crocodile
solitary souls whose
silent searches
to the human eye
immobile
its that control
of every muscle
that they achieve
until the time
until the prey
is too close for comfort
and their ambush
is then under way

Skins that have a sheen
and beauty
a toughness and resilient glow
they hold in all that
weight majestic
withstanding rigour
and aggro
of course such skin
is bound to warrant
interest from the
fashion trade
something that has
patterned beauty
that will last
and will not fade

its rarity
means that the margins
have an exclusivity
where there’s money
that is where
the gangster tribe
tend to be there
which means that
hunting men and poachers
those low life
who pad around
assassins ready
to go and slaughter
any soul that
can be found

exploitation is
now rampant
everywhere you turn
its there
tiny babies
trapped and
murdered
the market place
is so aware
decapitation
skins stripped off
the living who
bleed to death
in piles for days
for that is what they do

and for what
designer shoes
for that very special party
worn once and then
put away
that’s the’literati
handbags costing
thousands
hefty margins where
the reptiles that were sacrificed
faced hours of pure despair
they suffer in their thousands
they bleed to death
so we
can buy a vast array
of stuff
and its all for vanity

the enormity
the indignity
the total insensitivity
which I feel is
audacity parading
in this way
ignorance from buyers
arrogance those liars
that advertise and market
brutality and pain
they do have, a cross to bear
those belts and shoes
and wallets where
another’s skin
was torn away
fashionable
the price they pay

torture, death
the evil reigns
they are now
really, ill gotten gains
creation of this ancient tribe
was not so man
could go and bribe
officialdom and get his way
by murdering reptiles
everyday
its a really tragic
nasty way
of sourcing clothing
anyway

Frogs are eaten
by the million
their legs pulled
off most go to France
Vietnam and China
eat the rest
if they get the chance
snakes heads chopped off
hearts torn free
and they will pump
still constantly
their pain threshold
different from ours
so its agony for them
for hours

Alligators are often beaten
or stabbed of course
and then they’re eaten
in exotic restaurants
attracting those
gourmand’s who
or so it goes
the skin hags
with their airs
and graces
robotic types
with palish faces
hangers on
whose provocative ways
are all part of the
vile malaise
