“MMIWG”

Ten times the National Murder rate

Indigenous women and girls

it has a historic ring about the figures

these fine pearls of

truest fitting rightfulness

are taken out at will

the tribal conflagration

reality does spill

missing and murdered Indigenous women

and girls  the numbers rise

where the sprawling redwoods grow

another angel dies

but why

these wondrous women folk

emblems of true care

come face to face with terror

that apparently is there

misogyny an incendiary

these scoundrels seemingly

hiding in the darkness

attempt to thwart the free

impassive and unfeeling folks

prey upon these souls

denouncing their existence

and threatening their roles
