EPESI

At Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire
Yesterday we saw
A giraffe called EPESI
Kick the bucket
It’s hard to ignore
11 years old a baby still
Developed a Bad hoof
It was causing him some problems
If we needed any proof

His name in Swahili
Meant swift
And he became
Slow of gait
What was his fate
Sadly what they claim
Was he had an operation
And never woke up again
The tedium of living in a zoo
Became a strain

In the wild they live
A lot longer
Freedom is their thing
Wandering where they want to
To the Bush they kind of bring
A towering vegetarian
Leaf lover from on high
With a tongue as long as anyone
But sadly he did die

A high risk operation
Uncertain from the start
He lost his thread
He missed his way
I guess it broke his heart
not mad on anaesthesia
Everlasting sleep
Apparently he took that way
And made the eternal leap
