Circus is an abuse of wild life

Wild animals in circus
Is a very selfish thing
It calls for the absolute ignorance
To show them in a ring
The big top travelling here and there
All over so much stress
By definition animals need
More Exercise not less

Peter Jolly’s family circus
Has a range of souls
Zebra’s,Ponies,Camels
Goats and donkeys
Roles
Are simply not engaging
Their naturalness at all
Cramped up in their barns for hours
It has to be a tall

Order, to expect them
To entertain the crowd
To travel around the country
To come out always proud
Dressed up and performing
It is no place to be
And being on the road
At night no one wants to see

Dilapidated buildings
Poor food and lack of space
The animals fighting with each other
There really is no grace
Tangled up in tethers
In places far too small
With a terrible lack of exercise
They just go up the wall

The circus is passed its sell by date
Family business or not
Its really very cruel out there
The animals they have got
Cannot rest and cannot run
They are prisoners in fear
And the government ought to sack the three MP’s
Who vote to keep the animals here

It comes back to tradition
But there is no place today
Clearly there is much suffering
All along the way
Its really an absurdity
To expect them to perform
When you are stressed and hungry
Or when you get too warm

In England oft its raining
Windy and its cold
And travelling around the country
In wagons now that hold
Animals all standing
Cajoled from place to place
Passengers in moving trucks
At a sickening pace

Circus needs to be closed down
The big top shouldn’t be
With animals no none at all
No one needs to see
Dancing prancing carrying ladies
The psyche of the show
Is over it has reached the end
So few folk want to go

Its irrelevant and meaningless
The drama of it all
Its not as if we have no choice
There is so much on call
Animals have hearts and minds
And a business has to be
Profitable and who must pay
If its not,the animals are key

And all the time the show goes on
Moving from town to town
Its stressful for the travelling men and women
All get down
In inclement conditions
Tents and trailers they
Just are not conducive
To the order of the day

The three MP’s now blocking
The bid to set them free
Take animals out of circus
Allow them to be free
Out in a field where they belong
Not working day and night
With insufficient exercise
And so close that they fight

There really is no purpose
Its unrewarding to
The animals whose stress and strain
How can their health stay true
Its an unnatural environment
Its mediocrity
Its oppressive to the animals
Its where they shouldn’t be
