Frank

We met Frank and his dog
“spot” whose blue eyes did hold
A wearisome outlook
In the wind cold
Wanting to walk
To play with his stick
Take in the countryside
And just to lick
The wind scape
The cool air
A passionate hound
From number one
He covered the ground

Frank was a sportsman
A Libran who knew
The ways of the forest
And what he could do
Recently pained an tested by Ill
But loving the vista
Agreeing the chill

The flavour of Wales
It’s knowledge, his wealth
The people that reap
The peculiar stealth
The howl of the wind
Courting with the trees
The rush of the cars
And the pain in his knees
A sportsman of note
With a frantic acclaim
To run and to cycle
And swimming fair game

Pushing his heart
Frank clearly felt
Quietened by the weakness
His age did inpart
So many years round the area he
Lovingly worked in his house
One could see
Tested by the soil urge
And with that feel free

“Spot” a good dog
A friend, who before
Had taken a beating
Had realised war
With anger and nastiness
Had taken its toll
Sensing the wary
Knowing his role

To being aware
Of strangers who he
Needed to know for acceptance
Can free
Remaining stalwart
Calmed in his way
Of loving his manner
On the given day

Clearly protected by Frank
His true friend
Company really
Both of them lend
Favour to caring and sharing
Their lot
A wonderful partner
To his canine friend “Spot”

Frank knew the forest
His country, the brave
Eager to exercise
Wanting to save
Hitting the road
And savouring much
Clearly together
This pair were in touch

The road it was fast
People drove at a speed
Rounding the bends
With a danger indeed
In the watery vista
This tangle of trees
Outcrops and wild growth
And masses of leaves

Frank was at home
Knowledgable, He
Knew every step of his
Genuinely
With it the breathing
The cold
The gurgling stream
This neck of the woods
Engulfed every dream

It was good meeting Frank
Good at the lo cal
How times had changed
And “ spot’ too, his pal
Clearly together a man and his dog
Who skirted the dry
And who skirted the bog
Loving the action
Reaction and need
To be out in the air
And just really succeed.
