Mushrooms sold commercially

Lots of us love mushrooms
The supermarkets they
Sell all sorts even organic
Every single day
How are they grown
Did you ever check
What sort of medium do
They grow them in
Make a guess at least
Come on tell me true

The horrid thing is
Sadly
Most are grown on Peat
Of course a terrestrial carbon store
Although it feels discreet
It’s actually rather harmful
I guess you already know
That when you go buy compost
It be peat free
It’s a sort of glow
It gives knowing you are caring
So the mushrooms that you eat
Could be try some oysters
Or Shitake grown on wood
Retailers could be transparent
Then it would be good

Growing on wood substrate
Is more expensive so
These types of fungi
Are expensive it is true
People buy out of ignorance
Some though do not care
The National trust
Has stopped use peat grown
Fungi they aware

The government could ban the sale and use
Of Peat but they
Have put it on the back burner
For ever and a day
