Cruelty personified

National Donkey Day 8/5/

Fat arsed tourists
Like the high life
Tanked on ouzo
Pay a price
Ride the donkeys
In Santorini
See the sights
Roll the dice
These poor sad souls
Become the taxi’s
500 steps of rigour they
Bear the weight of sweat
And take the pain
I’ll fitting saddles and enormous strain

The Greek islands
Sea of blue
We wear those tight muzzles too
Standing in the hot sun, we
Get burned and spurned
Whipped and dragged
And all of this Despite our plea

And cry we do
Wounded limbs
All those steps
The flies that land
On our scraped wounds
Never treated
SanTorini it’s not that grand

Thank the goddess PETA loves us
It’s today day of the year
Donkeys get a day to think of
Overloaded it is clear
Sometimes two get on our backs
As if one is not enough
Tourist taxi’s
And the suffering
Beaten really life’s too tough

Santorini up to Fira
Galleries and shops and places
all those tourists
Pick us kick us
Bodies racked out through our paces
Fat arsed ouzo drinking Germans
Too much sausage we proclaim
If you go to Santorini
And up to Fira
Leave us be
It’ll be the same

Just no hurt for us
Poor Donks
We can rest a little while
We can enjoy the sights and sounds
And live a little. With a pile
Of hay and sunlight on our backs
Remember Donkeys need to rest
Meander quietly in the sunshine
Not sweat and slave and just detest

Our lives
