Enlightenment

The question is an arrogance
Assuming in a way
That only human beings
Apparently can say
They have an assured capacity
And, true powers of thought
Coming to terms with human beings
In itself it ought
To be a kind of enlightenment
I mean to say it tests
The acumen and sharpness
And there upon it rests
Aliens of thought
And language certainly
In many ways its very hard
For animals to be
Their need for understanding
And sagacity,
And alertness and an awareness
They need a strategy
For life instinctive reasoning
The wild lore’s
They must know
Harbingers and witnesses
Interpreting the flow
Its whether we are enlightened
Enough to comprehend
To interpret from their manner
From their movement
Will they expend
Energy or naivete
Are they amenable to how
Are they convinced its plausible
And can join us in the now
