“Jellybean”

There in the road
The little dog lay
Where he had been hit
Had been made to pay
For just being there
Not moved out of the way
Or loved or caressed
What can one say

Clearly a collision
A car and a soul
No matter whose fault
There is now a role
For a victim and an angel
To come to the fore
But only the victim
Lies very unsure

We were called
The street angels
As a baby did fade
We are
Animals unlimited aid
Near the TB hospital
In Rajasthan
With a life now
Apparently right down the pan

We took him to hospital
Bleeding awAy
From his mouth a long stream
It’s so hard to say
How badly he was
But clearly his pain
Was urgent and why
His blood did now drain

We gave him some pain meds
And cleaned him and saw
He was very skinny
neglected for sure
Not too much love
Plus being hit
And he laid out in front of us
Hurting a bit

After some days
He began to eat
He still couldn’t stand by himself
But the treat
Was He started to eat by himself
He had joy
And by day 5
Recovered he just didn’t die

He just loved the cuddles
That our people gave
We were here for him
And that started to save
His life his commitment
His happiness he
Came back from the dead
To where he wanted to be

With us all
