Thoughts of Yule

Its dark its cold its uncomfortable
And these days energy
Is expensive so what do we do
We shiver yes maybe
Windchill can be piercing
Perhaps it is a time
To recharge all our batteries
And purposefully to climb

Into thoughts of dreaming
Inspiration for a year
Thats coming when the good old sun will once again
appear
Get to grips with our inner child
The snowman and the slide
Watch the countryside coming back to life
Yes why not hide

At home a while, and read some books
Write an ode or two
A bit of self reflection
About what you need to do
Lots of mugs of cocoa
And just let jack frost Feel
He too is doing great things
On what is the seasonal wheel

Chilling off the bugs around
Lightening the loam
Damping down the wilder plants
Whilst you can rest at home
Perhaps beside a nice log fire
With embers burning hot
With chestnuts roasting
And some toast
Sat there in a pot

Remembering the ancestors
Sitting around the hearth
Probably none possessed tv
Or sound bars No their path
Was out there with the livestock
Imbolc coming fast
The little lambs in ivy
Despite the wintry blast

Yule was cold and frosty
But you felt so inspired
The biting wind played havoc
And despite feeling quite tired
The darkness brought some good thoughts
And Allowed you to make plans
For me preferring not to shop
But just eat out of cans

Just watch a few cars fighting through
The hoary frost outside
Feel the wrath of winter
Who will not be denied
Just sit and contemplate one’s navel
For a week or two
With A bowl of groats soaked overnight
To warm the cockles through
