Leaving rollrights 5/11 driving back to berkhamsted

Before the full moon came to be
The darkness was intense
The unilluminated roads
Really made no sense
Turning into the little lane
To meet the Oxford road
I realised the stygian gloom
Was not in the highway code

Driving on sharp headlights
With no other cars in sight
The wild ones came to take a look
Appearing from the night
The foxes three in short succession
A badger boy as well
Several deer it just seemed clear
Something they wanted to tell

This driver on his ownsome
On this over shadowed lane
Clearly my nocturnal friends
Caught in the lights did strain
Their great big eyes to ponder
Why was it that I
Was driving through their hamlet
Lighting up their sky

Out onto the Oxford road
Turning right away
Heading left to banbury
At this time of day
Suddenly she entered
The great big beaver moon
Contemplating greatness
And very much in tune

Her presence was remarkable
She just posed in the sky
With a clarity revealing
The signs that did apply
For me to get home safely
But not the way I had come
And I was home in under two hours
And really that was some

Journey via the motorway
And wilmslow so not bad
More animals in hertfordshire
Clearly very glad
The fireworks clearly had woken
The nocturnal crew
They must have wondered
What was happening
I am sure these creatures do
