A Pachyderms Lament

We are flesh and blood as you
Are flesh and blood, and we
Have a muscle called a heart too
Eternity
Provides us with a love of life
As you have
And so we
Enjoy the wildness in our soul
Its our philosophy

To this day we are giants
On the land that we all share
We have the weight of circumstance
And feelings too as aware
As mahouts who would expect us
To give so they might earn
Its futile trying to imagine
That they will ever learn

They are driven by their ego
In actuality
Empty shells as people
Its undeniably
Beyond their comprehension
And that of the baying crowd
Whose freedom of expression
For us is disallowed

We are dressed in their regalia
And made to tow the line
To have an arse upon our shoulders
As if that was a sign
Of power this diminutive imbecile
Imagines that its his power
That controls our every movement
When we sustain him every hour

His privilege through arrogance
We accept for it presents
No worth for his future
It really makes no sense
To run amok to anger to frighten
Those who be
Enjoying seeing us powerless
Drenched in slavery

Our world is one of difference
And deference to you all
Seemingly a paradox
But actually the call
Is quieter from the giant
Its inherent in our mind
Perhaps a countercurrent
That will be left behind

Life for us is wildness
The practicality of living in the wilderness
Where our philosophy
Is being entirely genuine
And sharing what we are
Thinking about what we do
And following the star

That guides us to the place where we
Should be and must be so
We can then assemble
As a race and clearly grow
When embroiled in human contact
In the scramble of each day
Chained up though exhausted
Buy the spirit thats at play

Really the illogicality
The displacement that we feel
Is nothing to the mahout
For he is never real
He is muddled and confused by us
Unhinged in many ways
Can an ant control and elephant?
Really all his days

We snap our nerves get pulled about
Those bull hook wounds give pain
Giants may have thick skins
But we can feel the rain
We derive such pleasure
From our own kind for we know
We can share expression on the level
We bestow

Tortured sworn at beaten
Our sense of freedom gone
Respect is all but finished
And we are ridden upon
Consigned to merely vehicles
To be given a hard time
We are flesh and blood like you
Conforming to your spirit
Which is not the thing to do

And some the youth within us
Have aberrations too
It presents so much frustration
Puberty is a clue
Changes are a afoot
And life is opening a sphere
The unexpected is happening
And it all seems far from clear

So we buck the trend
We fight back
We are in turmoil from within
We are suffering the vagaries
Of human beings in
Our face yes day and night
And when the world has gone to sleep
That is when we get the beatings
That is when they creep

Into our deprived and dirty place
A hole where we shouldnt be
But at least we have our own thoughts there
So some stablity
Some steadiness to close an eye
On the meanderings of the day
And think about our destiny
And how all this will play

And then we find its work time
Regalia is applied
The noise the bustle the swearing
Our world is on a slide
Into the darkest abyss
Where no one wants to be
And then the bull hook engages
From the mahout constantly

We snap! thats it we have had it
That was the bridge too far
We are going to stop this
We know where we are
We have to establish boundaries
Remind them who we be
Propagate an agenda
Based on our husbandry

And so anger then takes over
These doll like playthings need
Reminding they have gone too far
They too need to bleed
To be woken from their stupor
Even if we see
the rainbow bridge ahead of us
Then It is where we all should be
